Recognizing Burning to Defraud Arson and fraud are rampant in this country, and nowhere more than South Florida. While conducting origin & cause investigations for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue for the last 14 years, Captain Doug Keller has been at the epicenter of the burning to defraud epidemic. This 2-hr course will examine the history and causes at the root of the problem. It will expose past and current trends in arson for profit. This course is heavily based on the experience of many South Florida Fire Investigators, which comes from investigating hundreds of “Fake Fires” and is supported by fire science, criminal convictions, and the dirty work of digging fires. The Origin & Cause Investigator will learn new tools with which to conduct a preliminary fire investigation and will leave the class with important new information on how to recognize the telltale signs that a seemingly innocent mistake might actually have been a well-planned scheme to make “free” money
