Program Abstract
Ignitable Liquid Detection (IGL) Canine Teams provide a tool for investigators to identify potentially productive ignitable liquid sampling areas at a fire scene, on a person, in a vehicle, in a crowd, or at other locations potentially related to a fire incident. They can also be used to screen evidence samples to confirm they are viable and check gear for decontamination. This module helps the investigator understand how IGL canine teams are trained and worked with the goal of educating the investigator so they can work in partnership with the handler to search a scene successfully and safely in accordance with best practices. The module also covers canine olfactory biology, documentation of alerts, collecting samples from alert locations, and how to properly use the results of IGL canine alerts.
