Insurance companies and their retained counsel play a significant role in the origin and cause investigation industry with their early involvement in most fire related losses. This ninety minute moderated panel discussion features two experienced lawyers that regularly investigate and litigate fire claims. The program will address issues that can and do arise during the investigation and litigation process related to the retention of fire investigators, expert qualifications, scene processing, data collection and analysis, hypothesis development, report writing, deposition testimony, trial testimony, and opinion admissibility with an emphasis on mistakes and shortcomings that investigators can and should avoid. This program is intended for insurance company claims representatives involved with fire losses, private sector fire investigators, and public sector fire investigators.

Chris Konzelmann
Chris Konzelmann is a senior partner in the Subrogation Department at White and Williams LLP where he regularly acts as lead counsel in investigating and litigating significant fire loss. He is an active member of the International Association of Arson Investigators where he is a Certified Instructor and Co-Chair of the Insurance Industry Outreach Committee. Chris is a New Jersey state certified interior structural firefighter, fire officer, and fire instructor and a Captain in the Mooretown Fire Department in Burlington County, New Jersey.

Eugene LaFlamme
Eugen LaFlamme is a partner at McCoy Leavitt Laskey LLC’s Milwaukee, WI office. He has defended clients throughout the country and serves as national and regional counsel for a number of corporations and insurance companies for their fire and explosion claims. Eugene was the founding co-chair of CLM’s fire and explosion committee (which has now merged with the property loss committee). Eugene is also the current vice president of the Hearth Patio Barbecue Educational Foundation, a trade organization comprised of companies involved in the fireplace and barbecue industries. Additionally, Eugene is a frequent presenter and author for numerous national and local conferences and publications – especially on fire and explosion matters.
